Home Plumbing Tips While You're in Quarantine

1st Response stays open for operation during the COVID-19 outbreak. These are challenging times and we are here for any plumbing or cleaning emergency you may have at home. However, we want to help you to prevent urgent plumbing situations. For that, during your self-quarantine, follow these plumbing tips:

First, learn where your pipes are located. Take the house plans, and study the intricate system of plumbing pipes. This will help you with any home project you might have in mind these days. For instance, dare to hang a new shelf or picture, only after you make sure that there is no risk to nick with the nail a pipe and cause a leak.

Watch your drains, especially the kitchen drain. These days, you may find yourself cooking more than you normally do. Be extra careful about what goes down on the kitchen sink drain. Even if you have a sink garbage disposal, avoid washing away grease or oil, starchy foods, peels, eggshells, coffee grounds, etc.

Don’t overdo it with drain cleaners. These eat through clogs, but also your drain lines causing pinhole leaks. So, try your plunger first. If you are unable to clear the clog, call us!

Flush nothing else than toilet paper into your toilet! Paper towels, wipes, facial tissues, kitchen napkins, etc. are not meant to be flushed. If your toilet gets clogged, always use a plunger or a plumber’s snake, and nothing else.

If you have a major plumbing issue, call us! Trying to fix it by yourself can lead to more serious problems and more expensive repairs or replacements.
